Antique British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sword. For sale
Antique British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sword. For sale
This is the famous British 1796 pattern Light Cavalry Sword.
Designed by the great John Le Marchant and introduced in 1796. This Sword became the Iconic British Sword of the Napoleonic Wars.
It saw the rise and fall of Napoleon and they were carried in their thousands at Waterloo. A fantastic piece of history that you can own!
It was made between 1796 and 1821. There is a marking on the spine of the blade that looks like Gill. This would make sense as Gill were a prominent sword manufacturer of the time.
Condition:
The sword is solid. The blade is clean. The scabbard is a bit battered but has done its job protecting the blade.
The grip covering has been replaced at some point. It is now covered in leather and steel wire. Although not original its sturdiness allowed me to practice Sword drills without worrying about damaging the grip.
Due to the replacement grip covering and the worn scabbard this sword is available at a very reasonable price. You wont find one cheaper elsewhere.
This is the sword for you if you are looking for a solid working example of a 1796.
